My name is Jay and I’m looking for a way to turn my love of many things (aka my fads) into something at least semi productive & challenging. I’ve heard from god knows how many people about this wonderful thing called blogging and thought what better way than a casual/non-committed approach to doing this.
First off, what are fads? Many may have heard of this term, in Layman’s terms it’s a short term trend or interest. Apparently us blokes love a good fad and I’m not an exception to that generalisation. I’ve been through a lot of them, from my sudden re-ignited love of basketball around the time that The Last Dance came out. To my attempt at veganism when I heard about the mental and physical health benefits of it. I’m extremely open minded when it comes to categories of fad, let me know if there’s something you’re currently “fadding” right now, you might not even realise it yet.
My current fad, and a fad I hope will last a while as I’m basing this blog off it, is FIFA. A much loved game as a child, it was heavily neglected during my “growing up” phase when I got my first job and moved out. However, having recently found myself with some very limited free time I decided to fire up my old FIFA 17 game on PS4 and gave it a whirl. I fell in love with the game again, this time attempting a more casual/realistic version of a game that otherwise could be considered arcadey. After googling I found a community called “Operation Sports Community Sliders” who recommended a really good set of sliders (for those who don’t play FIFA these are settings you can manually adjust to change very specific parts of the game e.g. how fast your players can run). They also suggested playing on slow speed (game changer) and making your halves longer which unfortunately I didn’t have time for in my schedule. I use these as a base and changed my sliders slightly to my personal preference. Check out their FIFA 20 sliders here: https://forums.operationsports.com/forums/ea-sports-fifa-sliders/958687-fifa-20-os-community-sliders.html
From firing FIFA 17 up, I came across on deal on eBay for the latest version of FIFA, FIFA 20, and so I splashed out and got it and here we are. I play the career mode, which is where you become a manager of any club the game has to offer and try and take them as far as you want. I really get enjoyment from creating scenarios & stories within this mode. That’s what I want to do with this blog. Create the scenarios & stories, document them here, and then potentially document my journey going through them. You’ll notice I reference in many examples he rather than she or they, that is simply because the majority (most likely all) of my career modes on here will in fact be from the male FIFA teams referencing in game male players.
I would love for this to develop into something that people share and create their own versions of my scenarios or create their own scenarios too. A big part of this for me is keeping it realistic with a set of house rules; that I use to prevent me from abusing the game (as you can very easily abuse this game). The next post will be those specific rules and I hope those who have read this far will join me there.
If anyone has any scenarios they would love for me to try to document then please feel free to let me know through the contact page on this blog.
